The Union provides support and helps create a better workplace and community for teachers. Joining Illinois Federation of Teachers means that we are no longer at-will employees. Only with a union can folks have a binding say in their working conditions. The employer must negotiate in good faith over wages and terms and conditions of work, and must abide by the contract the parties agree upon.
If a teacher is summoned to a meeting that might be disciplinary or about loss of benefits, upon request, a union rep will attend to advocate for the teacher.
